Current Volunteer Needs

The Food Bank of Lincoln has regular volunteer hours available: Monday - Friday: 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:00pm
The Food Bank of Lincoln is always in need of volunteers for events and special promotions which would be off-site.

Stamp Out Hunger-Walking Route Volunteer

There are various postal walking routes that begin between 9:00 and 10:30 am and generally last 4 to 5 hours. Volunteers should be prepared for maximum availability from 9 am to 3 pm. Volunteers usually follow in their car but will stop often to assist postal worker with the donated food. The volunteer will transport food to one of the postal substations. Some postal carriers may prefer the volunteer to walk the route with them and help place food in the postal truck. Lifting of small bags of food required.

Hunger in America Volunteers

The Food Bank of Lincoln is looking for compassionate volunteers to participate in the Feeding America Hunger Study. The study runs April-August 2013. The Food Bank is in need of 20 to 25 volunteers who are at least 18 years of age and who can travel throughout Southeast Nebraska. Volunteers will meet with clients and administer a survey at our partner agencies.

Important qualifications:

  • Work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Computer Skills
  • Dependable
  • Good communication skills
  • Volunteers will complete a single training session prior to administering surveys.

Veterans Distribution

Six to eight volunteers needed on the first Monday of each month at the V.A. Nebraska (600 S. 70th St., East Auditorium doors). Volunteers are needed form 9:30 to 12:30 pm to help with this distribution.

Duties Include:

  • Unload Food Bank truck
  • Help with setup
  • Distribute product to clients
  • Help carry food to clients vehicles
  • Clean up
  • Some jobs may require up to 40 lbs lifting, could be repeated lifting

SNAP (Food Stamp) Outreach

Through our SNAP Outreach Program we are helping individuals and families get food assistance via food stamps (currently known as SNAP–Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program). Our goal is to partner with community agencies to be able to reach out to those in need and help them fill out the application and offer follow-up as needed.

Donations of Time
Donations of time are very important to keep the Food Bank operating effectively.

Some of the opportunities that are available are:

  • Picking up donated food
  • Sorting, stocking, and repacking food
  • Delivering promotional supplies
  • Preparing mailings
  • Working at special events
  • Telephone follow-up
  • Working at the LPS Emergency Pantry
